#HITsecurity Twitter Chat: Healthcare's IT Security Check-Up

By Michael Gaspar, Program Manager, Social Media, HIMSS Media

There may be no topic more important in healthcare than securing data and maintaining business continuity in the face of today’s mounting cyberthreats. For every IT innovation created, there appears to be a new vulnerability for hackers to disrupt healthcare operations and put patients and care networks at risk. To combat these attacks, industry leaders have a variety of issues they need to keep at the forefront of their efforts to be effective and proactive in their security programs, including but not limited to:

  • Understanding how cloud computing changes the way security teams work
  • Developing a strategic security plan that will keep them ahead of the curve and remain agile
  • Gaining critical corporate leader and board member buy-in for programs
  • Learning how to secure networks and data without interrupting workflows
  • Navigating the process of hiring and retaining top InfoSec talent
  • Keeping employees aware, educated and proactive in protecting data
  • Preparing for what you don’t know is coming

To help understand and grapple with these challenges standing before us, Healthcare IT News is calling on community of clinicians, patients, payers, health IT professionals, researchers and academic institutions to share their ideas and lessons learned during the #HITsecurity Twitter Chat on May 10 from 12-1 p.m. CST.

The May 10 #HITsecurity discussion will be a continuation and deeper dive in to the issues discussed by HIMSS Social Media Ambassadors (and Twitter chat panelists), David Harlow and Dr. Nick van Terheyden at HIMSS18. Check out their "debate" on the pain points healthcare security leaders should consider in developing their security strategies and infrastructures.
