Healthcare Security Forum: A HIMSS Event
Boston, MA, Dec. 7-8, 2020
Small to medium healthcare providers are the largest source of comprehensive primary care for medically underserved rural and urban communities, serving more than 74 million patients through Medicaid, or nearly 1 in 5 Americans. Yet they represent the weakest link in terms of health cybersecurity. These providers also represent a largely untapped market for IT service providers.
Health Tech Access Alliance, a nonprofit member of HIMSS, conducted a study of 45 small and medium healthcare providers serving underserved communities. The study assessed their cybersecurity vulnerabilities and developed industry baseline and trend lines over three years, showing the impact of interventions to improve cybersecurity. The study focused on results of interventions, including security risk assessments, site visits, vulnerability scans, best practice policy and procedure templates, and coaching to identify and remediate security risks.
The presentation will include lessons learned and real world recommendations to improve security for small and medium healthcare providers as a critical element in our nation's healthcare system.
