He has an in-depth understanding of the healthcare industry and the challenges organizations face in managing foundational changes in reimbursement, ever increasing compliance requirements, and the need to redesign business processes and reduce costs in order to remain relevant. His focus areas are improving patient outcomes, increasing cost of care, and improving patient satisfaction through analytics and the appropriate application of IT and BPO solutions cost-effectively. Bill graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Healthcare Economics and has worked with individual, group and government health plans, providers and Life Sciences organizations prior to joining Unisys.
Medical device manufacturers currently provide little to no security features, and the length in time involved in making necessary design modifications and getting the necessary FDA approvals means that every device currently in use, and devices to be introduced in the next 3 – 5 years, can be considered legacy devices and therefore, potential security issues.
An integrated approach to medical device management is necessary. Integrating device management and security across their life cycle is the subject of this presentation and discussion led by William Parkinson, senior director, Enterprise Solutions and Global Lead for Healthcare Strategy. In addition to device security, key themes covered include understanding total cost of ownership, cost-effective maintenance, compliance, and capital planning for the healthcare organization.
